Q. I am not flexible, can I still
do yoga?
A. Yoga means “Union”, not “Become a pretzel”.
You can benefit from our classes regardless of your current condition.
And if you are not flexible, isn’t that a great reason to
do yoga?
:)
Q.
I can’t sit still and I have trouble concentrating for long
periods of time. Will yoga be boring, or too difficult for me
to pay attention?
A. Most mental discomfort begins in the body. Simply
by releasing stress and tension from your body, you will notice
that your concentration and focus greatly improves.
Q.
How many times per week do I need to practice?
A. Like many other exercise routines, we recommend
three times per week as an ideal program. If you have other activities
that you do, you may be able to come once or twice a week and
still see many benefits. If your schedule is very tight, it is
still better to come once in a while than not at all.
Q. How long will it take to see the benefits?
A. In general, it takes at least three months to
make lasting changes to your physical body. Some common benefits
are: release of shoulder/neck/back pain, better digestion, weight
loss, less headaches, more energy, sleeping better/deeper.
It
generally takes six months to make lasting changes to your daily
emotions and your attitude.
Some common benefits are: more happiness, a more positive mind
set, more emotional control, more motivation, better awareness
and more satisfying personal relationships.
It
takes at least one year before you can reinforce these good habits
into your personal character. With a consistent practice and a
sincere mind, there is very little that you can’t change
in one year. It is tempting to want to make instant and drastic
changes, but what comes quickly can leave quickly, and all the
time and energy that you invest in yourself, will pay you back
in the long run.
